Electrode Application with EC2 Cream
Cleaning the Area for Surface Electrodes
Before surface electrodes are applied, the scalp must be prepared properly. This requires topical cleaning at the measured locations. Local scrubbing with a gauze pad or a cotton swab, using a mild detergent will remove local oils and reduce scalp resistance. Alternatively, commercial skin prep products such as Weaver’s NuPrep, Mavidon’s LemonPrep or GreenPrep or PDI’s Electrode Prep Pads may be used.

Application of Surface Electrodes with Grass EC2 Electrode Cream
Rub a small amount of Grass EC2 onto the prepared area of skin. Deposit a mound of EC2 cream about the size of a large pea on the desired area, direct from the tube. Alternatively, a small amount of Grass EC2 may be scooped up in the electrode cup. Gently press the electrode cup into the mound until a small amount of cream exudes from the electrode hole. Small gauze pads about 2 cm square can then be gently pressed over the EC2 to help hold it in place and prolong drying. EC2 hardens when exposed to air, so delayed removal becomes more difficult. Coating EC2 with Vaseline or hypoallergenic hair spray will prolong drying time. Keep away from eyes. To remove, pull off the gauze, throw it away, and soak the electrodes in warm water and then the paste will easily rinse away. Wash the area with a mild detergent/water solution. Comb the residual cream from the hair. EC2 is isotonic with the skin but prolonged contact, as with any foreign material, may cause irritation. This is the easiest surface application.

Application of Ear Clip Electrodes with Grass EC2 Electrode Cream
GRASS F, FS, FH, FD-E34D Series Ear Clip Electrodes can easily be easily applied. Prepare the ear lobe area
as described above. Apply EC2 electrode cream into the cup-disc electrodes in ear clip assembly and then attach the ear clip assembly on to the ear lobe. After recording, remove the ear clip electrode and clean ear lobe and electrode with warm detergent/water solution.

Application of Surface Electrodes with Grass EC2 Electrode Cream for Long-term EEG Monitoring
|
Deposit a mound of EC2 cream about the size of a large pea on the desired area, direct from the tube. Gently press the electrode cup into the mound until a small amount of cream exudes from the electrode hole. Place more EC2 cream over the electrode and cover with a gauze pad about 2 cm square until the EC2 cream comes through the fine holes of the gauze to help hold it in place. This is a proven alternative to using collodian.
