Also known as
Electric Swivels, commutators are available with 3, 6, 12 and 18
leads. All commutators have an opening through the center to allow
tubing from a fluid swivel to pass through. They are designed to
be low current and low voltage devices. These have been tested to
levels of 100 volts and 0.08 amps. All single plug commutators are
supplied with a live plug (red) and a dummy plug (white) for even
rotation of the rotor. Commutators are low noise and environmentally
safe.
The mechanism
for conducting electrical current/signals consists of brushes and
rings. All commutators have double brushes to assure unbroken continuity,
unless a single brush is requested to reduce torque for use with
mice.
Rings are made
with a non-noble substrate that is nickel-plated, then gold-plated
99.1% pure to mate with the brushes. Testing has proven both materials
to be superior in sliding electrical contacts.
