| Mercury
strain gages usually consist of very small diameter silastic tubing
filled with liquid mercury or some other alloy.
These devices
have been used for many years in research and clinical labs for
measuring circumferential changes of digits and limb segments. They
provide a means of recording respiration by monitoring the expansion
and contraction of the thorax or abdomen. In sleep studies, they
are widely used for measuring penile tumescence.
The Grass F-DMGA
Adaptor provides low DC excitation current for the mercury gage
for greater safety. The F-DMGA is a two-channel adaptor, especially
convenient for dual gage applications such as base and tip in penile
tumescence recording procedures.
The F-DMGA unit
mounts on the side of the recorder with a bracket. Two 20-foot (6
m) cables are provided. Other lengths can be supplied. A CHECK position
on the unit tests the integrity of the mercury gages.
