Astro-Med Introduces New Lightweight Wireless PSG System

WEST WARWICK, R.I., Oct 27, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Grass Technologies Product Group of Astro-Med, Inc. (NASDAQ:ALOT) has obtained FDA clearance to market their latest sleep diagnostic system. Called AURA®PSG, the new wireless amplifier system offers maximum patient comfort without sacrificing the ruggedness required for sleep studies. Using built-in Bluetooth™ technology, the 25-channel system has the capability of transmitting polysomnographic (PSG) data to a computer without the patient being tethered (wired), as has been typical for decades.

The typical application of the AURA PSG is to assist in the diagnosis of patients suspected of having sleep disorders. The patient visits the sleep center where he/she is equipped with the wireless AURA PSG, complete with electrodes, respiratory breathing sensors, pulse oximetry, and other types of sensors. The AURA PSG now "broadcasts" the patient's data directly to a recording station. The patient is "free" from being tethered to a bed and can sleep comfortably. If the patient needs to get up during the night, recording continues.

Following the highly acclaimed Comet® PSG and AURA® EEG Systems, the AURA PSG offers features unique to the Grass Technologies family of products, including Grass Technologies's gold standard amplifier design and unmatched lifetime warranty. Engineered for both wireless in-lab monitoring and ambulatory out-of-lab recordings, the AURA PSG is compact, rugged, lightweight, and versatile. The unit is powered by a rechargeable battery pack.

The entire family of products utilize Grass Technologies TWin software for recording, review/analysis, and report generation. Each acquisition station is compatible with all amplifiers, allowing for recording of PSG studies, Routine EEG, Ambulatory EEG/PSG, and Long-term Epilepsy Monitoring.

The Grass Technologies Product Group of Astro-Med, Inc. designs, manufactures, and sells advanced systems for PSG EEG, Long-term Epilepsy monitoring, and OR/ICU neuromonitoring, as well as supplies, accessories, and a broad range of products for neurophysiological research.
